I'm from Illinois and I say pop .... Hubby is from Arizona & he says soda ... Grandmother-in-law from Georgie and to her it's sodee water

That's funny, It's like when you want to buy film, you'll just say Kodak, even if it's Fuji, or if it's a toothpaste you say Colgate even if it's Crest, LOL.

So anyway, I still dont get it. WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SODA, POP AND COKE. And don't tell me it's the spelling. hehe

I grew up in Indiana, & everyone there called it pop. We moved to Oklahoma and it's soda here. My hubby's from Texas and he calls it sodee water. My daughter's so confused, she usually just asks for whatever brand she wants to drink. "Mom, can I get a Pepsi?" or "Mom, Dad is getting a Coke, can I have one too?"

yeah its all the same --- just depends on what mom & dad called it.

People around here call all diapers Pampers. That drives me nuts cuz I dont even LIKE pampers. LOL

I voted before reading... I call coke Coke, and I call other sodas by their respective names. I don't really just say "Can I have a soda?", well, I do, and it usually implies Coke.

I call is soda. So people would really call a Sprite or a Mountain Dew a coke?!

I've usually heard most people call it soda...unless they're from Taxas. LOL I call it pop. I believe most people from PA do.

Funny how different parts of the states have different names.

I came from WV where it was soda, in OH it was pop, not sure what they call it down here in NC. But a coke was a coke.

I am in Florida and have been here my whole life, and i call it soda, except if I am asking specifically for coke at a restaurant or something.

I call it a soda. We usually only have one type in the house and that is Coke. Every once in a while we might have Dr. Pepper but I will say a Dr. Pepper. Otherwise it is known as soda in our house.

I am with troubledmood, I call it soda-pop. When I'm out I usually say gimme a Pepsi, or Coke or whatever you have.

I call it sodey pop...but I call dr pepper...dirt pecker and sprite spite...ummmm cream soda=creamy and coco cola I call acid....

I think it is too. Although my dad used to always call it a Soda Water - pronounced Sodee Water. It drove me crazy. I call it coke, no matter what it is. Reminds me of the joke:
Hey, you want a coke?
Sure, what kind do you have?
Uhhh....Dr. Pepper.
