Kevin had sent me "The New Slow Cooker - from A Taste of Home" and I just put a Chicken Cacciatore in the 4 Qt and will check it out after work tonight. Thanks again to Kevin - BTW its the one on page 148. I didn't have any mushrooms so I substituted sliced bell pepper instead.
First off this is to be converted to a "Low sodium" recipe so any cheese is a no-no). I have found a decent substitute for milk (Original Coffee Mate at 0 sodium) and my first thought was I can now make potato soup.
Am I the only lazy one here? I use mine on my gas grill. Put the DO of one side and light the other. My grill will idle down to about 225 or up to 400 with just one burner lit.
Most all cream soups are a no-no for a low sodium diet. This one was copied and changed several times mostly to get rid of the dry milk powder that was creating most of the sodium count. First you have to make a "No-Salt seasoning. 1 1/2 tsp garlic powder plus 1 1/4 tsps of the following...
One of my first forums every morning has been "What's for dinner" to see what Rick was cooking, complete with pictures, and that gave me my inspiration for the day. Rick, you must be taking the day off lately.
Being on a low sodium diet means cooking for 1 most of the time. If you don't have a heart condition why give up the sodium. So if you guys have any "one pot" slow cooker recipes I would love to see them. When I mean "one pot" I'm talking about those recipes that don't require a separate...
After I returned my "toaster-toaster" for a refund, I took that and a gift card from my daughter and finally bought a bread machine. Wife said don't bother since everyone she knows who has had one gave it away. I would too if I could buy bread but my "super low sodium" diet limits my bought...
Well I got my Toaster Oven for Christmas and now I'm about to chunk it. I thought a toaster oven would be just like an oven, only smaller. I found my 8 inch skillet would fit in fine so I mixed up a small skillet of cornbread. This should bake about 20-25 minutes depending on oven. After...
We always have the traditional new years fare. I'm not allowed the ham anymore but there will be some out. I think I know where there is a pork chop hiding in the freezer. BTW we forgot to get a cabbage before they sold out so a bag of coleslaw mix will have to do.
Going to try this recipe in my new 2 qt slow cooker my DIL got me for Christmas mainly because it looked easy.
4 cups red cabbage (just a small one, shredded)
1 onion, chopped
1 Apple, peeled and chopped (Granny Smith)
1/2 cup cider vinegar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 tsp salt (Or sub)...
Going to be 7 of us. The wife and I plus my son and DIL and our daughter and SIL plus my MIL. No, we are not being traditional at all. At first it was going to be Fajitas then somehow it ended up steaks. The vote came to T-bones and baked potatoes. Somehow everyone votes but only dad buys...
Most of my soup recipes just evolve from making changes each time I make it. This started one night when I wanted soup and didn't have anything but an onion, very little celery and one carrot. I've changed it every time but I really liked it last night. It is a way to use those few leftover...
I am attempting to duplicate my dads chicken and rice. Problem is he never followed a recipe, never used measuring cups or spoons and certainly didn't write anything down. All I know is that it started with a whole chicken and included onion, celery and the rice was included in it and not...
I know low sodium brown gravy mix is nothing more then cornstarch with large amounts of sodium free beef bouillon in it but when you haven't had it for a while it's OK. Recipe for the mix is halved from the original from Dick Logues book "500 Low Sodium Recipes". I like his book since he has a...
I was thinking about one large enough to bake a chicken in. At under 15 Lbs it should allow me to bake for long periods of time outside without heating up the house during our long Louisiana summers. I have long ago switched to the gas grill for baking potatoes just for that reason. You guys...
Everyone is saying that I shouldn't eat "fried" fish but I see recipes for chicken tenders that bake after it has been breaded. You spray the cornmeal, flour, spice coating with a non-stick oil to allow it to brown before baking at 350 for 30 minutes, turning once. Shouldn't that work with...
Several weeks ago the family had tacos while I had my "low sodium" chicken breast. Went to SP and asked if anyone had a recipe for low sodium taco seasoning or one I could convert to low sodium. Mama to the rescue. Her recipe is on the Low Sodium forum. Needless to say I made it and put in...
Ever since scubalaydee sent me her recipe for sweet curried apples I've been on a curry craze. So I found a recipe for curried chicken that's low enough in sodium for me and I'm about to throw it into the Crockpot. Since it is a Rival I can safely use the term Crockpot. Lunch will be the...
