Rue McClanahan is gone.
Wow. I'd lose my card-carryin' elite privileges to GAY-dom if I didn't remark on the passing of this Hollywood legend. Though I'm not necessarily the cutesy sparkly fairy-dust thrower some are... I'm much more likely to be clad in November woolens and camos trudgin' the edge of a field searchin' for pheasant for Sunday's supper... but this 'ol boy will surely miss his Blanche just the same.
Rue was a dear Okie who played the gracious, exaggerated, risque southern belle to a T. Her Blanche could move us to flowing tears just as quick as she could make us bust-up in total rib-sore laughter. I've got the DVD collection of all seven seasons- so in my mind Blanche will live on forever- as will Dorothy (Bea Arthur), Sophia (Estelle Getty) and of course Rose- who's still w/ us, thankfully (Betty White)...
Thank you for being a friend, dear, dear Rue! And may you arrive in heaven w/ Dorothy and Sophia waiting for you at the table- with a whole cheesecake and an extra fork!
