1 pk dry yeast
2 Tbl warm water
5 cups plain flour
1 tsp baking soda
3 tsp baking powder
4 Tbl sugar
1 1/2 tsp salt
1 cup shortening
2 cups buttermilk
Disolve yeast in lukewarm water. Into a large bowl, sift flour with other dry ingredients. Cut in shortening. Add buttermilk then yeast mixture. Still till all flour is dampened. Knead on a floured board for a minute or two, roll out to desired thickness(1/2 inch is good) and cut with a biscuit cutter. Bake at 400 about 12 to 15 minutes or till lightly browned. This dough may be placed in the fridge immediatly after mixing and used as needed. It will keep for about a week.
These are a little more than a regular biscuit, but less trouble than rolls. They are very good. You can cut the sugar down to 2 Tbls if they are too sweet for you.
