Apple Butter Stack Cake?

Anyone else make this cake?
I remember my Mamaw making them when I was a kid. The longer they sat the better they were. She would make 6-8 layers of cake and slather homemade apple butter between them. It was soo good!
I have seen some recipes that are similar but use dried apples between the layers. For me ..I always use apple butter.
I put a batch of apple butter in my crockpot this morning to cook all day. Im going to make cake tomorrow :)

I wish you lived closer lol.
The longer it sits the more the apple butter soaks into the cake and it gets even better.

LOL....Cathy ! We have Poke Salad in abundance around here !But I have never eaten any either.
When I was a kid My Dad used to cook em and He also used to dig up Sassafrass roots and make a tea out of them when we got sick with the croup.I dug up some Sassafrass roots in my garden this year and the smell took me back.

Janie when you bake that cake just go ahead and email me a peice !:D

I thought about going to pick poke this year but I really didnt have any place to go and look for it. When we went to the graves for Memorial Day with Jons Dad I saw some and it was about 8 inches tall. Jons Mom and her hubby have some wooded areas but they also have seen a baby bear up there and alot of bear tracks. I think Ill pass lol.
The Apple Butter came out perfect. I put it into some styrofoam cups with lids and once it cools Ill put it in the fridge. Ill make the cake in the next day or so. We are in the middle of a heat wave again with high humidity so Ill have to wait and bake it at night. We are supposed to get lots of rain soon from that hurricane in Florida.

Its a very simple apple butter recipe from my Fix It & Forget It crockpot cookbook. If anyone wants it let me know and Ill post it.

Now Janie you make an offer like that WHO CAN REFUSE:confused: Not I :D Please post the recipe, and I'll have you know I just had to have Apple Butter on my raisin cinnamon toast this morning, Eddie and Maddy were eating breakfast all around me and well I got a hankering...for Apple Butter!!!! Must be someone planted a little seed in my brain:eek:

Apple Butter

Apple Butter
Makes 6-10 pints.

4 qts. fine chopped tart apples
2 3/4 cups sugar
2 3/4 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp ground cloves
1/8 tsp salt

Pour apples into slow cooker
Combine remaining ingredients and pour over apples.
Cover and cook oh high for 3 hours stirring well with a large spoon every hour. Reduce heat to low and cook 10-12 hours, until butter becomes thick and dark in color. Stir occasionally with a wire wisk for smoother butter.
Freeze or pour into steril jars and seal.

When I make it I put everything in the slow cooker and put it on low for 8 hours. I dont even worry about cutting the apples up very fine because about half way through their cooking I use a stick blender right in the crockpot to puree the apples the way I want them.
