Years ago when I was a l'il tyke we went to an A&W Rootbeer Stand. This was back in the day when they had curb-service. You just drove-up to a speaker and placed your order by speaking into it and left your window almost all the way down- but not quite all the way down... and soon the car-hop brought your food and rootbeer out on a tray and clipped it onto your partially-opened car window for you.
Well, 40 or so years ago when we went my folks ordered m4 a child's tiny rootbeer that came in a sweet l'il miniature glass rootbeer mug w/ the orange and brown A&W logo on it.
I'm embarrassed to say that my pesky Dad evidently was drawn to the novelty of it because when we got home it seemed that tiny l'il miniature mug somehow had remained in our car after the car-hop removed our food tray!
Dad used that l'il rootbeer mug for decades as a tooth-pick holder. It was always on our kitchen table alongside the S&P shakers. Then low and behold- one day it was simply GONE! No idea where it went!
Well, believe it or not I recently took my nephew to one of the rare A&W's that we still have in this area. And guess what? They brought back the various sizes of glass mugs for the holidays and were selling them! AND- they even had the same tiny miniature one!
So, I picked-up 3 of them- 1 for my table, 1 for Sis's table and one for Dad's too. Now we'll all have a place to put our tooth-picks again!
