Double decker tacos

Yep - guess we're goin with mexican tonight.

Hamburger with seasoning -- I assume I'm not the only one that uses the store's taco seasoning. Do you put water in it like it says and let it simmer? Or do you just put the seasoning on and let it cook?

Anyways... just making some hard tacos & then taking some warmed tortillas and coating 1 side with refried beans. Wrap the tortilla/bean MESS around the hard taco and viola!
 
I'll go for hard tacos, but soft tacos I think are much better. Try that tomorrow night. They're definately better!
 
Are you saying that you wrap a tortilla around a hard taco?

My friends and I get together every few weeks and we have a fiesta night, well that’s what we like to call it. I buy the hamburger seasoning from the store and put water in it and let it simmer. I like to add a little more water, because I don’t like the hamburger dry. I am going to have to try the double decker tacos. I usually make fajitas, quesadillas, or california burritos.

I use the store bought packets too! were the good? i love double deckers! yummy yum yum!
 
See, the best thing about these tacos is that it's less messy than both hard & soft tacos. With hard tacos, you always have the problem of the shell cracking and everything falling out. When you wrap the beans & soft shell around it, it usually doesn't crack. It gets a little soggy from the beans. And if it DOES crack, you've got the beans/tortilla to catch it. PLUS...it's just really good!!!

OMG You must REALLY love double deckers!
 
Best of both worlds right there! My husband will love this.

We use the store bought taco seasoning (Ortega) and I do just like the directions say, I like mine really seasoned though, so I usually buy an extra packet.
 
I usually use the McCormick or Taco Bell seasoning. I've tried the copy cat taco bell recipes and never found one that's even edible. At least with the powdered stuff, the family doesn't gag. LOL

And you're right. Best of both worlds. More like 3 worlds because you've got hard taco, soft taco and bean burrito.

And yes Kay - I really do love them. LOL Of course mine isn't close to taco bell, but it also doesn't have everyone running to the bathroom within the hour. *laughs*
 
Oooh, that sounds yummy! You could also make tostadas and sandwich refried beans between them.
 
I don't usually buy the taco seasoning. I prefer to make my own. I cook up onions and garlic with the meat, then I add cumin and cayenne to the meat mixture when it's close to done.

We sometimes do double decker tacos, too. My dh got hooked on them at Taco Bell. The home version is MUCH healthier.

A tostada is a flat, fried crisp, corn tortilla that is topped with any variety of toppings. I've seen it most frequently with beans, meat, lettuce, tomato, cheese, salsa, guacamole, and sour cream.

That looks really good. Thanks for the picture. LOL I'll have to try this next time I make tacos for dinner.
