Eating Contests

Nathan's held their annual hot dog eating contest on the 4th of July. The winner ate an amazing (somewhat sickening) 53 hot dogs with the buns. Hard to believe that anyone could eat that many hot dogs and buns but they set a new record.

Tell us of other eating contests that take place.

I enjoy a good hotdog on occasion - but after watching this guy choke down
53 3/4 hotdogs - I don't think I want a hotdog for a while.

I have seen watermelon eating contests, spaghetti eating contests (those bother me - I worry about choking!), chicken wing eating contests (now that one I would like - I'd just grab a plate of wings and run with them - LOL!), twinkie eating contests and pizza eating contests. The ice cream eating contests give most of the contestants that ice creamn headache! Watching is better than participating - unless I could run off with a plate of chicken wings!

:p

I agree, that hotdog eating contest was disgusting. And I like hotdogs just fine.

Funny thing, it's this little skinny Japanese guy who always wins over the linebacker types at these eating contests. Wonder where he puts it all?

Last year there was a woman who won an eating contest - I don't think she weighed 85 pounds soaking wet! I swear she had a hole somewhere and it all fell out! When you think of eating contests you usually picture big, burly tough-looking men with a tummy on them - you never expect a Mr. Puniverse or a petite woman! (sorry if there are any men here that resemble Mr. Puniverse or big, burly toughies!):p

I wonder where the contestants head immediately after the contest? :D

Only can think of a few ways to stay 85 pounds when eating 10 pounds of hot dogs. It seems to be a profession for the Japanese dude.

Oh my gosh that makes me think of the Bud Light "Real American Heroes" commercial for "Mr. Hotdog Eating Contest Contestant". I hope that guy didn't suffer too badly from indigestion afterwards.

I don't believe that there is any concern for indigestion since I am not sure if digestion actually occurs at all.

Hope they were given a pack of these:

One time on the Food Network I saw some sort of contest with a restaurant whose biggest hamburger had SEVEN (!) meat patties. Some guy tried to eat, I can't remember, maybe six of them or so? And french fries. No, he did not succeed.

I couldn't touch a hamburger after that for a long time.

Nathan's has a good marketing gimic there. Gets 'em lots of free publicity right at the peak of the summer season. Too bad it's unhealthy. Everything in moderation is my motto.

I really wish I would have studied marketing when I when to college. I marvel at ideas like Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest. I has universal appeal to people, and to the media -- two important needs to be a success.

The 'Casting and Reeling' class I took instead has helped me fish better but there's a lot in life that needs a marketing background whether you realize it or not.

Most of the people that enter theses eating contest actually train for them. This little asian lady was in an eating contest and stated that she norally eats one large meal a day. She trains her stomach to handle that amount of food. CRAZY!!!

Yea that is crazy! I always have wondered how they can put so much food into their bodies like that. wow!

If one trains for eating contests it makes you wonder how they can control their weight - must be like a yo yo (always up and down).

That is why I wonder how these tiny little people participate in them. Where do they put it all? Seems they would gain a lot of weight, not only from the contest itself but also from the necessary practicing as someone was saying.
