Foods that never make it to the table

I have a problem with cooking and eating at the same time. I mean after all you have to taste each new batch that comes off the stove right? For instance tator tots. By the time I've made enough for the entire family, I've eaten so many that my share is gone and I don't get any with dinner...unless I make one more serving of them.

I've found the same is true with MANY foods that I cook... like coconut shrimp. Are there any foods that you feel the need to eat and eat and eat some more of while you're still preparing dinner??

I have a problem with boxed mixes making it to the table - cake mix, hot chocolate packets, instant oatmeal, breadcrumbs - when i want a snack i often use a spoon to dig into them dry and i like it!

Stovetop stuffing is a good one for me. I pig out on that stuff.

Its alright to test taste but if you over do it, it might make you wider. Its addictive. I can sympathise

Just thought of another one. I can hear my kids in my head.... "Mom? How's come there's only 5 cookies?" LOL Well... probably because I got bored while waiting for the first batch of cookies to cook, and I ate the dough. And uhm.... the hot cookies coming out of the oven smelled so good I had to have some. Maybe I should stop baking while they're at school. LOL

Oh, cookie dough is my downfall! It grosses my husband out, lol.

Cake batter too and icing...

Good thing I have an elliptical exercise machine here..lol. I can totally overdo it with sweets.

A friend of mine makes cookies in her toaster oven - now you know how big those are - she would get 4 to 6 cookies per tray. And of course, she wanted to make sure each tray that came out of the toaster oven was baked correctly. So she would eat 2 or 3 from each tray. Then she would snack on them during the day and while making dinner. Too bad her hubbie never got to taste them!

cookies normally don't make it that long in my home normally we eat them as I get them out of the oven. wish that I had some now.

sweet potato fries never make it to the table. we stand around eating them right off the cookie sheet! :p

Most types of sweets for me! I can't even buy ice cream anymore because it might last a day. Everytime I walk by the freezer I grap a spoonful!

Sweet potatoe fries? Really?? I've never heard of these. Are they just french fries made out of sweet potatoes???

LOL @ Bensmom not being able to pass the freezer without ice cream. Isn't that aweful!! I do the same with those little ben & jerry's containers. They're ALMOST too rich to eat a bowl full... but I can spoon it all day. And you can tell because there'll be no dishes in the sink, except 20 spoons. LOL Hubby will say "Hey sweety?? You got icecream in there?" LOL

Mama Mangia - that story bout killed me. She cooks 4 at a time and tastes 2-3 to make sure they're good. LMBO!! That's hysterical.

Yep, sweet potato fries are just that: french fries made from sweet potatoes. SOOO GOOD!! We slice them up ourselves, like steak fries, and oven bake them. Incredibly good.

The sweet potato fries -- do you put any sort of seasoning on them while they bake? I love ketchup with normal fries. Do you dip the sweet tator fries in anything before eating them? Like maybe melted butter?

Do they come out crunchy at all? Personally, I hate baked fries because they always turn out so soft and mooshy. I like deep fried for that nice crunch.

All you do is toss them in a bowl with a little olive oil and salt, then pop 'em in the oven. They are yummy as-is, but a little ketchup never hurts. ;) they'll come out crunchy if you slice them thinner...more like matchsticks than steak fries, IYKWIM.

Actually, I recently tried some ready-to-cook sweet potato fries that I found in the produce section (near the bagged salads), and they were sliced very thin, and my husband complained that they cooked up TOO crunchy.

I know, deep-fried is delicious, but oven-baked is sooo much healthier.

I wonder if putting olive oil on normal fries and then baking them would make them more crunchy. Do you think you'd have to let them thaw first? I'm talking about frozen, bagged fries. I may have to try that.

I'll definitely keep a look out for the bagged sweet potato fries as you mentioned.

I can't imagine putting ketchup on a sweet potato. Do they taste the same as when you do baked sweet potatoes? Seems like it would be a very odd taste to put the 2 together.

I can't keep my hands out of oven baked tortilla chips. I've almost got myself trained not to make them until the meal is almost finished cooking so I won't eat so many beforehand.

If there's an open container of anything that I like in the house, my hubby knows not to count on it being there when he gets home. I'm just so bad about grabbing spoonfuls of whatever it is to eat during the day. I very rarely eat lunch anymore because I'm 'spooning' things all day long.

My biggest downfall lately though is chocolate syrup on bread or toast. I decided it would be good one morning for breakfast & I've been eating it ever since.

Crispy Skin Pork, you will always eat the skin before it hits the table.

Bread. Lately I have been on a carb kick and have to have bread. I am talking french bread or even sourdough bread. It never makes it to the table. Actually I am not the only one. I see my kids getting little pieces from the loaf every now and then.

I can never get enough veggies at my table the boys just leave it in the kitchen
