3/4 cup vegetable shortening
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1/4 cup molasses
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 t. cinnamon
2 t. baking soda
1/4 t. salt
2 t. ground ginger
1 t. ground cloves
2-4 T. sugar for rolling
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Cream together shortening and sugar. Beat in egg and molasses. In a separate
bowl, combine all dry ingredients and then add to wet mixture. Shape into 1"
balls and roll in sugar. Place 2" apart on greased cookie sheets. Bake for 8-10
minutes. Do not overcook.
Yields 3 1/2 dozen
