Help For a Terrible Stain?

Hey Gang,

I'm in an awful mess! Normally I'm pretty good with stains, but this is one I don't want to get wrong!

Bought a brand new lite yellow shirt. Washed and pressed the shirt- then wore under it a brand new black wool pea-coat.

Imagine my anger when after wearing them only half an hour I got to work, took off the coat and discovered the new coat left an extremely noticable "dark shadow" on the shirt!

I'm afraid getting it wet might set the stain. Any remedies to save the shirt?

Also, how the hell am I supposed to wear the coat, now? It's dry-clean only. Should I take it and have it cleaned to prevent further such stains on other shirts?

AGGGHHH!!!!!!

Kev I am no expert, but soak your yellow shirt in some cold water with detergent and soak and wash by hand to hopefully allow the black to leach back out of your shirt  it may or may not work but hopefully...hot water sets stains so use no heat on the cleaning. You may save the shirt or may not.

Also the dye in your coat is going to do that to anything you wear, I am not sure dry cleaning would help, you may want to call a cleaners [or several cleaners] and inquire. You need to have it washed in any case but the best method to remove the dye residue that remains a cleaners would know what to do...hopefully.

Good Luck Kev

Woolite is particularly good at getting stains out. That's what I normally use for soaking as Cathy suggested.

Hydrogen Peroxide may also take out certain stains. As well as Vinegar. I use Woolite too.

Wow, thanks for the helpful hints everyone!

The new coat was a bargain-rack item, but it sure ain't gonna be worth a thang if it's gonna ruin other clothes! Yikes!
