I need the real low down on using pyrex on a gas stove.i saw alton brown making gravy in a 9 x 12 clear glass bake dish on a gas stove.i assume it was pyrex what else could it be?
 
Yes it was clear,thats why my dismay. THEY MAKE CLEAR CORNINGWARE????

I've heard it said that Pyrex CAN be used over a flame- though I've personally never tried it- and proll'y never will. Too weird and potentially distrubing for me to want to be near if it happens to backfire! Icky!

BTW, Jimmy- welcome to the site! I think you'll find we're a fine bunch of folks from a variety of bacgrounds, all regions and all walks of life. I personally find this place the funnest & friendliest such foodie forum on the web! smiles- kevin (chubbyalaskagriz)
 
re: pyrex on an open flame - a friend of mine tried it - great roast ended up in the trash and the mess wasn't worth it - I wouldn't chance it - period.

buy Corningware glass pans - work great
