What Would Lincoln Eat?

Museum presentation will explore American cookbooks and culture inLincoln’s time The McLean County Museum of History will host a lecture on eating practices from 1809-1865 by food historian Penelope Bingham Saturday, May 16, at 2 p.m. “What Would Lincoln Eat?” is presented in conjunction with the Museum’s newest exhibit “Come and Get It! The Way We Ate, 1830-2008”< /div> The program will investigate the types of food and meals that were prepared during the lifetime of our nation’s 16th President, Abraham Lincoln. Audience members will also be invited to consider how this era of unprecedented expansion and turmoil changed American eating habits. Ms. Bingham is a member of the Culinary Historians of Chicago and International Association of Culinary Professionals, and has had a lifelong passion for books and for cooking. She has given programs on American Cookbooks and Culture to libraries and cultural organizations throughout Illinois as a Road Scholar for the Illinois Humanities Council. Her work was also recently featured in Chicago Magazine and on WBBM TV’s “Table for Two.” Admission to this program is free and is made possible in part by an award from the Illinois Humanities Council, the National E ndowment for the Humanities, and the Illinois General Assembly.
