I use mine for reheating, but also for cooking veggies, melting things (like butter), defrosting meats, and quite a few other things. It's very versatile and helps you be efficient.

Like TexasRose,

Reheating and defrosting---AND popping corn!!!!!!! People with babies find it indispensable------I really don't remember the last time that I cooked a real meal in it from beginning to finish.

Just reheating mostly and yeah popcorn sometimes. I didn't know it can be used in defrosting meat hehe, I usually just put water to defrost meat now I learned something new. Cool.

I use it for every thing. reheating, popcorn, cooking hot dogs, almost everything.

popcorn, reheating stuff, starting out baked potatoes (much faster than traditionally baking potatoes).

I used to use it to boil water for tea/cocoa, but then I got an electric kettle. LOVE THAT.

Yes! I'm one the those who only use it to reheat. I'm the only one who likes to drink tea so instead of boiling an entire kettle of water to make tea I pop it in the micro to heat the water. I defrost things in there, too. That's it and honestly, other than using it to make an egg dish when I got my very first micro in the late 80's, I've never cooked with it. I also made micro popcorn in it once. I remember getting a free bag of popcorn which I popped in it and it somehow burned and scorched (ruined) the turntable. That was an expensive bag of "free" popcorn.

In the 80's it was so popular to cook with your micro. What I didn't like was forking out for all new micro cookware and the fact that it was a "science" to learn to cook with the thing.

I'm an oven, crockpot and BBQ Gal! :)

I cook eggs in it too. Place a little butter in the bottum of a bowl and then crack the egg in the bowl. I cook it for 35 seconds and then I have a cooked egg "over easy medium". really quick and easy.

I bought a microwave and never used it except for popcorn. I gave up microwave popcorn after that write up on the ingredients. So it is now retired and only pulled out to heat my wax for my eyebrows!

I don't know if I can mention this or not so I'll let the powers that be make the final decision but there is a great microwave popcorn popper endorsed by Orville Redenbacher that makes the best popcorn ever. It's called the Presto Power Pop and you can use it with or withour oil---I got mine at WalMart. I do use a little bit of oil with mine but it states that you don't have to. Delicious!!!!!!!!!! We haven't bought the popcorn bags since as we think it tastes better in the Presto.

Ooops----forgot another tip when using the microwave. We don't eat bacon very often but when we have to have it I like to start it off in the microwave laying the strips in a large platter over lots of paper towels and covering with paper towels. Then I cook at high power for about 3 minutes and then transfer to a regular preheated fry pan to finish it out. By doing it this way most of the oil is absorbed by the paper towels with no spattering and the transfer to the pan finishes the frying and crisps the bacon without all the mess. Of course if you like to reserve your bacon grease you wouldn't like this idea at all. ha!

Thanks poorgirl I would love to try out that. But do you get a full fried egg or half fried in 35 seconds?

We don't eat bacon very often either, except for perhaps a BLT every once in a while. Bacon cooks really well in a microwave, but the grease is a mess. We once had a microwave bacon cooking pan, but it was a mess to clean. The paper towel works good, but you need several layers to sop up the fat.

I've found that baking bacon produces the best results. We bake the bacon on a cookie cooling grill over a cookie sheet for about 20 minutes at 350 degrees. That makes a nice soft cooked bacon that's great on a BLT. To reduce the fat, we buy the center cut bacon. It has way less fat, costs a little more now, but in health terms, saves lots later.

From memory, I think you need to stir this once at this point, and then cook another 15 seconds to get a fully cooked egg. This is great on top of a sliced bagel, and then adding some Cheddar cheese.

You really need to cook eggs through now because of salmonilla is in 5% of the chicken eggs. So long soft boiled eggs and toast.

We have 8 microwaves in our kitchen. They are running almost constantly when we are busy. We have an "all you can eat" dessert bar that goes with our meals. During this summers "heat wave"...I tried actual "baking" in mine.
I have now got "muffins" and "cakes" down pretty well. There is a slight difference in texture...but none of our customers have commented on the change...so they must be ok! Anything you're interested in doing...let me know...I would be glad to help!

My father in law used to sell and repair microwaves (when they were expensive) and serviced them afterward for commercial businesses. He can cook a complete meal in a microwave and it tasted quite good.

All I can do is defrost food, and I'm not too good at that. My wife is pretty good at the microwave. But we dont' really cook in it. She'll make some rice casseroles and other side dishes in the microwave, but not the main dishes her dad does.

I use the microwave for lots of things. It is especially handy for defrosting food, melting butter, cooking popcorn, oatmeal, side dishes such as rice and sauce, scrambled eggs, etc. It is especially nice for cooking bacon for all the reasons already mentioned. It also is great to heat the food for our dogs and cats (yes, they all are spoiled). Baked potatoes come out perfectly cooked. About the only food I do not cook in the microwave is meat such as steaks, roasts, chicken, etc.

I use microwave for poping popcorn, reheating things, melting butter oh and those microwave meals like for breakfast I buy those for my kids its easy.
