Perfect? Flawwed?

I remember as a kid sitting down at the breakfast-table to a plate of perfect over-eazy eggs. Brother's eggs were perfect too- as were sister's and Dad's. But often Mom's plate had eggs that were misshapen & malformed, w/ busted yolks and tattered whites. It was years later before I learned the pride of sharing only the best of your bounty; of indulging loved ones w/ the choicest and best.

Today, like Mom, I prefer my eggs less than perfect. I don't mind a busted yolk- or even a slightly burnt piece of toast.

Another oft-snubbed food I opt for is lumpy mashed potatos. In fact, while some folks like them whipped light, creamy and perfectly smooth, I purposefully stop mashing early just to ensure some bumps and lumps- almost just to prove they're real.

What less than "perfect" foods do YOU enjoy? Are there any "flawwed" foods you prefer?

Yes, as I may have mentioned before on another thread, I like the spaghetti noodles that are lumped together when someone forgets to stir the pasta after they add it to the boiling water.

I prefer my mashed taters lumpy!

But like your mom - I'll serve you the good stuff first. It's always been like that in my house. The "mama" got the ravioli that broke in the water while cooking, she took the broken meatballs, she ate her sticky buns from the outside row so others could enjoy the center ones, she ate the ends of the breads, etc.

Maybe it's just us oldsters that do it.

Burnt Toast, Burnt Steaks, Not perfectly round tomatoes, potatoes with eyes, iced tea with too many ice cubes, and maybe a few other things.

Jon will actually leave his cereal open so it goes stale and he does the same with chips.
He likes them better that way.
I love hot dogs off the grill that are a burnt.
I hate pie when it is hot. I never eat mine til I have it in the fridge for a while.

I even do that when I make Jon's plate. Kind of silly when you consider he cannot see it.

Love me some burnt popcorn!!!

Slightly scorched foods always appealed to me especially veggies, not as an adult I know why (we now call it camelized):)

Everyone's stories sound familiar!

We cooks are generally giving souls...

When company comes, someone else always gets the best seat in the house... The largest, finest portion... Sunday fried chicken?- another always gets the biggest breast portion, or the prized liver & gizzard.

That first sloppy piece of lasagne or pie goes on my plate... Golly, gettin' them wedged-out looking nice can sometimes be a bear! The finer, perfect pieces always go to others.

Ahhh anything but burnt popcorn! I also love most things a bit on the over done side. I love my sausages with some nice char. I like the pieces of pizza where the cheese is browned and crunchy, I like the little fries at the bottom of the carton that are cooked to a crispy brown. But I can't do burnt popcorn or burnt eggs.

I also always give the prettiest pieces of what ever I have made to my friends, family and husband. It just seems the right thing to do. Besides if the slice doesn't come out perfectly or those first cookies were a little too brown what does it matter to me? It's all still delicious.

I'm the type of person that loves to scrap the crusty bits from the casserole dish after baking a Mac N Cheese of even a potato augrauten. That's my favorite part of the meal.

IC - are you the bottom of the pan person too??? You know all those luscious browned bits of meat and garlic??? I am!

What the heck is that Myrtle beach stuff at the bottom of my post? I've never seen that before. Is it my computer doing that?

There has been advertisements under the first post on a page for awhile now, lol. The two that I see under your post is cleaning burnt food with scotch brites and The Ideal Cheese Shop.
The scotch brites can't have my Mac N Cheese scrapings.

REAL GRILLED CHEESE:D Slightly scorched great northern beans on the bottom of the pot, or even large lima beans, the mexicans knew what they were doing when they developed re-fried beans!!!:)
