Pots & Pans

Do most foodies have a lot of pots and pans?
I have been feeding my MIL's pets while they were gone on vacation. I looked in her cabinet for a sheet pan to set the pets bowls on to be easier to carry. I was suprised to find she didnt have much in cookware. She doesnt cook much anymore but everyone says she used to be an awesome cook. I had always assumed since Jon's Dad doesnt have many pots and pans that she took them when they divorced. She didnt have much of anything and what she did have was all cheap junk. That suprised me because they have plenty of money. They are more the type to spend money on things they know people can see if you get my meaning lol. I had noticed a few times when I was helping her finish holiday dinners that she had to empty pots and pans occasionally to make something else. I am going to ask her when they get back why she doesnt invest in a good set of pots and pans. It would be worth it for when she has family get togethers.

There are just some things I couldnt imagine being without. I use my dutch ovens for soups, stews, chili & braising. I couldnt imagine being without my sheet pans or my hard anodized skillet for frying chicken. Jon got her a rotisserie a few years back for Christmas that I think they have used twice. They complained it was to hard to clean lol.

Do most foodies have lots of cookware or alteast one good set of pots and pans? I know I have more than some but I admit I am a gadget junkie.

I love a well stocked kitchen, and I have a very nice set of pots and pans with the heavy iron clad bottoms. A large set of glass and metal bakeware, lots of knives and lots more than I need of bowls and plastic containers for leftovers and mixing stuff up in. I can function on very little but care not to! Call me spoiled, but I love having what I need to get the job done!

My favorite items that I use constantly are ramekins! Believe it or not I utilize them here at the house more than some restaurants! I have all sizes!

I honestly dont know how she manages even one family dinner a year on what she has. She usually cooks big meals about 2-3 times a year. She does a Thanksgiving & Christmas meal around those holidays.
Don't you hate it when you have those people who never return things you take them food in? I love my brother to pieces but anything I give him something to eat in I know Im not gonna see again lol. My younger sister returns anything she takes home. Jon's Dad is good about returning plastic ...if he remembers it is yours and not his other daughter in laws lol.

So when I take food to my FIL's I have my name wrote on the side. I buy throw away containers from the deli for my brother and my little sister I can let take anything lol.

When I was with Arturo we had a great income together and we splurged on things- including pot & pans. The cabin we shared was was small and modest in some respects- but was fully-stocked to the brim w/ the finest of everything! There we had All-Clad pans w/ copper tops and heavy stainless bottoms. We each also had our own condos- Art's in Portland- mine here in Illinois. Since we traveled home to each condo little, we didn't have those kitchens so spectacularly appointed. A few years ago I bought an inexpensive set of Wolfgang Puck pots & pans at Sam's Club. The set includes a soup pot, large skillet, small omelet pan, and 3 various sized sauce pans all w/ see-thru glass lids. Oh- and I only paid about half of the price shown at the site... (see link)

I have seen alot of that Puck stuff at SAMS CLUB for a good price.
I gotta lay off buying stuff for the kitchen. I have taken over a corner of the livingroom where my rabbit's cage used to be to stack pots and pans.
