Seven Degrees This Morning

It is cold!
It is only supposed to be up to 20 degrees here today.

I am smoking turkey legs and thighs in my stovetop smoker for Sunday supper right now. Jon's Dad bought them. He is crazy about them smoked. My husband doesnt want anymore turkey so I am going to smoke him some chicken wings. I'm not making much just some yeast rolls, mac and cheese and some roasted baby squash I got at Krogers the other day to finish out the meal. I got some peppermint ice cream at the store for dessert. My FIL loves peppermint.

Hope everyone has a lovely Sunday!

Yeah, it's cold here too. It was -4 when I got up. Where is that global warming I was promised? I'm just making pork chops tonight, rubbed with Chinese 5 Spice and something with potatos to go along with, not sure what yet.

Heck - at least you guys got a temperature - and I can't believe that the lake is not frozen yet! we are getting lake effect - so we are geting buried!
I'm ready to give up with this shoveling crap............

Dang- You still got a "lake" there, mama? Heck- the geese here decided to fly a way from the water they'd been swimmin' in, and they took our frozen lake away with them! :):):) It's just after 2:00AM here in Illinois and the net says minus 4. UGH.

I tell ya- I experienced minus 50 in Alaska- but it's not wet and humid there like here in the lower-48... it's more arid and dry there, and as whacko as that sounds, just like with summer heat- that makes a complete world of difference!

It is around 10 degrees this morning.

We went to my fil's yesterday for Sunday supper. I made him 4 fat turkey thighs and 5 turkey legs smoked. I honestly dont think I have made that man anything he likes as well as those. Usually after the holidays he growls if you mention turkey anything. Jon and I had a few smoked chicken wings since we both are tired of turkey. I am allergic to coal which my father in law heats with so my asthma/allergies has had me up most of the night.
Today we are having occasional snow showers - cold but no accumulation. The kids are back in school today. Cold bus stops!

My brother gave me a 7 1/2 pound pork butt with the bone in yesterday. I usually just make them in the crockpot and shred them but if anyone has a recipe for it I would love to have one.
I got 12 portobello caps at Krogers a few days ago that I smoked for half an hour last night. I am going to make a smoked portobello mozzarella pizza today.

Hope everyone has a good Monday and stay warm! Mama I hope you are feeling better.

I think most of my germs have been frozen out of my system!

It won't stop snowing and blowing - it's coming in off the lake (Erie) and the lake is not frozen yet - can't figger that one out - I'm sure frozen! So our snow falls sideways here! total whiteouts all day. grrrrrrrr

We've got 18 degrees here in Georgia this morning. Can I borrow some carbon credits from someone so I can order some of that Al Gore global warming

It's 05:30 and we're sitting at a solid 2 degrees right now.

Thing is, my super-sized self is roastin' ta death!

My department here at work is in the basement of a huge corporate campus and some new maintanence man musta just discovered where the turn-up dial was on the thermastat and dialed it to 99 and broke it off!

Whew! I'm sweatin' like a whore in church!:)

(kinda proud of myself- I got sex AND religion in that one! :):):) )

work in politics and we'll call it a trifecta :D

We got an inch of snow last night but the high today has only been 12 so the salt on the roads isnt working. They are giving heavy snow for Thur through the rest of the week. Someone needs to remind our local weather man that it isnt a forcast when you look outside and post what is already happening.

OMG - it's been snowing here for 3 days non-stop! An inch of snow and the salt on the roads isn't working? We drive on 18-inches of solid packed ice here.

We have no temperature - the winds won't stop and the snow won't stop - and everyone is out and about.

What do they call "heavy" snow where you are?

The inch of snow last night was from flurries. Here they call heavy snow 5-6 inches or more in a 24 hour period. I know it is nothing compared to what you deal with. The most we ever had here was 17 inches at once. My old clunker car wouldnt like driving on or on 18 inches of ice lol.

Blizzard 2000 - once again the lake wasn't frozen - and the snow never stopped for almost 2 days - we had 14 feet of snow in the driveway, my second floor deck was gone - I thought it fell off the house and we had a mountain of snow over the roof. But when we finally got a thaw - the deck was still there. they had to get the national guard to move the snow down to the lake and dump it there - some was put on trains and sent to other states for winter activites.

We got about 8 inches in the past 6 hours - and it's still falling.

I was raised w/ rough winters here in the mid-west. Snowfalls two feet and more at a time. Temps often reaching minus 20 degrees or colder. These days though- and I know everyone says this- but it just doesn't seem it ever gets as cold or the snow as deep. Or for not nearly as long, anyway. Despite what Al Gore says- it really seems the winters of my childhood were much more harsh. I remember delivering newspapers when I was ten and it was 25 below, and the snow was up to my waist- literally. Never these days. Weird!

In Alaska I saw it all. Dutch Harbor out on the Aleutian chain was called "The Birthplace of the Wind" and as you might guess- it was ALWAYS windy- even on nice, balmy, beautiful summer days when the sky was blue and the birds chirping.

Way up north near Point Barrow on the Beaufort Sea the temp was often minus 70 degrees (ambient) w/ wind-chills a hundred below zero. Thing is- I never felt those temps at all. Our plane landed and we disembarked in a heated hanger. We loaded into heated vans and were drove to camp and let out in heated vehicle pool garages. Luckily, as a kitchen-worker my job never required me to go outdoors- we even dumped our garbage cans in inside dumpsters for incineration!

Southeast Alaska- near Juneau where I managed a silver-mine camp on Admiralty Island? The winter weather was MILD. This region is actually rain-forest and it rains year 'round. Average winter temp is 35-40, might drop a day or two at a time and cause some snow- but next day it would always warm back up, rain, and melt all the snow.

Today it has stayed around 17 degrees all day. Just started snowing. We are supposed to get around 5-6 inches total. I went to Walmart just before 5am this morning and got my brothers groceries and some for us. Wanted to beat the snow and no one seemed to be able to say even close to when it was going to start falling.
Picked up a little 3 1/2 pound boneless leg of lamb this morning. Jon and I decided to splurge lol. Im gonna marinade it in olive oil, fresh rosemary, garlic and a little lemon juice.
