Me too! I couldn't find a recipe on any thread and this one is simple compared to some I've tried and very delicious to boot:) I can eat shrimp (well actually seafood of any kind) with every meal. I grew up at Wrightsville Beach, NC so that may have something to do with it;)

Julie your recipe is a great one and takes me back to a fond memory.....

One year I was vacationing down in the Florida Keys and was a guest upon a Shrimp Boat for an over-night trip. The water was crystal clear in the Atlantic and you could see all the way to the bottom, you could see sting rays, and man-o-wars floating on top, and even sea turtles on occasion it was so beautiful seeing that georgeous ocean so pure and clean looking!

Late that night I got to go sit in the wheel house with the Captain and he told me stories of some of their many trips and it was just so neat listening to his stories! Out on the deck the guys were busy hauling up the nets and cleaning & sorting the contents. They did catch some fish in the nets and some nice edible fish too!

So for breakfast the next moring we had...you guessed it fried fish, shrimp, grits and biscuits!!! The best breakfast of my entire life and the freshest seafood one could ever ask for.

If any of you ever get an invitation to go on an over-nighter on a Shrimp Boat GO FOR IT, you will not be disappointed:)

Cathy,
Thanks and your memory brought back my own. I love to vacation in Key West (but haven't been since my son was born, must take him soon:)) and I went snorkeling once on a charter boat but the hundreds (actually only about thirty:p) barracudas swimming all around me chased my fraidy cat self back in the boat:eek: Decided I could handle the "land barracudas" at Hog's Breath Saloon alot easier:D

Now you're talking my language!!! Yeah snorkeling with those 'cuda is kind of a feeling that's hard to explain. I went with a boat trip too, but also went several times just off the shore and that is where I got the most 'cuda following me, I had some gold threads in my suit and they thought I was a lure for sure!!! Hee-hee they kept circling me and finally I gave up and got out. When you were snorkeling did you see all the Lobster? They were everywhere when I went.

Did you go visit the Mel Fisher museum? All the gold and emeralds were just splendid, of coure the emerald ring I WANTED only cost a few grand like 33:D

And how about Ernest Hemingway's home? Did you get to see it? I LOVE THE KEYS!!!! I grew up in Miami Florida so the Keys are in my blood, as well as the Everglades! I LOVE FLORIDA!

I love the Keys, especially Key West. It's the only place I've ever been that I walk everywhere! And yes I've poked my nose in every museum, store and bar there! I love the store that has all the feather masks I bought so many cuz I couldn't decide which one I liked the best. And I bought this painting that is a dog pedaling a bicycle and the old man is riding in the front basket with his legs hanging out the front. Such a hoot! I've wanted to take Josh but wanted to wait till he was old enough to not only walk it but truly enjoy it and all the islands all the way down. I usually fly into Miami and then drive so I can stop all along the way. Josh is 10 so I think this summer, I'll surprise him.:)

Fun & fantastic story/memory, Cath! Thanks 4 sharing!

I LOVE snorkeling and scuba diving too! I've been to the keys and the snorkeling was really nice there. My favorite though was in Turkey. I chased a poor spooked octopus for an hour! We went on a sailboat trip on the Mediterranean around Turkey. It was also just fabulous and lots of fresh seafood. I spent quite a bit of time in the small kitchen with the chef trying to learn his secrets. He was really nice about it though.

I had never tried shrimp & grits before until I made a recipe shared by KYHeirloomer last year. Talk about good eatin'! MMM, MMMM, MMMM!

RE: "OK Kev I know you thought you could get away with it..........BUT NO WAY DUDE You just gotta share Brook's recipe with us!!! PLEASE I hope you still have it!"

Ya know what, Cath? I do still have Brook's recipe... I've made it 3-4 times... and it's a good one, too! I was a Shrimp & Grits virgin until I tried his version... Only bad thing is it's on my home computer- which is currently out of commission!

Let me reach out to him and see if I can get it for ya! (I tried googling a recipe- but I ain't gonna offer any of'em, 'cause Brook's is entirely different than any others I've found. Brook's actually calls for ketchup among the ingredients- and it is SO yummy!

I spent a year in Turkey. Compliments of our Department of Defense. I was in a very rural area though but we did have some clear water.
