Slow Cooker Thanksgiving Turkey

INGREDIENTS:
5 slices bacon
1 (5 1/2 pound) bone-in turkey breast, skin removed
1/2 teaspoon garlic pepper
1 (10.5 ounce) can turkey gravy
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon dried sage

DIRECTIONS:
1.Place bacon in a skillet over medium-high heat, and cook until evenly brown. Drain and crumble.
2.Spray a slow cooker with cooking spray. Place turkey in the slow cooker. Season with garlic pepper. In a bowl, mix the bacon, gravy, flour, Worcestershire sauce, and sage. Pour over turkey in the slow cooker.
3.Cover slow cooker, and cook turkey 8 hours on Low.
 
I did a small turkey (whole one) in the crockpot (6 qt.) to see how it would turn out. Not bad at all! I seasoned it the same I usually do and when it was done I transferred the drippings to a pan and made my gravy. Still used the carcass to make a pot of soup and jar some broth for use later on. It freed up my oven for making my dressing and baking other goodies.
 
The smallest turkey I can ever find is 10 pounds. I was planning to brine one that size in buttermilk and then try it in that NuWave oven and see how it does. IF it works it would free the oven up for me to make other things. The NuWave makes wonderful roasted chicken but I am afraid a turkey would be to close to the heating element. I guess we will see.
 
One year I found several that were between 7 and 9 1/2 lbs. So I grabbed 6 of them and put them in the freezer. Best part - they were 19 cents/lb.!

From crockpot. You can cook a 20lb turkey in it (unstuffed, can't use this with a stuffed bird). I did it a couple times. Comes out great! The meat falls off the bone.

This thing is good for any large cut of meat you want to slow cook. It doesn't heat up the house either.

One tip though, if you do cook a 20 lbs bird in it, check it about halfway through and remove some of the liquid, otherwise it can overflow.
 
I have one like this. I wonder if I could make the turkey in it? It is an outdoor smoker - indoor roaster.

It would hold a 20 pound turkey.
I have only used it to smoke meat. I would have to do a test run with a small turkey before I tried the holiday bird in it.
One of the complaints people had about this one was that while smoking it didnt hold the right temp. I have a digital thermometer now so I could watch it and make sure it was staying on track.
