Here is the story ....

I got a cell phone about 2 yrs ago ...after 2 months of getting this cell I received a phone call asking for some person I have never heard of ... I explained they had the wrong number ... their response was noooo your this such and such person and this is your number correct ? ...I replied it is my number but I am not that person ... maybe they gave you a wrong number ....theirresponse..noooo this is you because we checked the phone company and they said this was a landline number and you are this person ...finally I just hung up on them ... this is going on 2 yrs now they continue to call me from about 8 different phone numbers and asking for that same person I repeatededly told them over and over to stop harassing me and that there is no such person and that its a cell phone they are calling ... It always ends up where I have to hang up on them ....3 months ago they call and I didn`t pick up they left a message saying they were an officer and that I had better fess up or they will come get me . so since then I never answer my cell any more and labeled their numbers SPAM so every day they call about 5 times never leave a message but once in a while they will and say ... If you are not so and so please call this number and we will not try to contact you at this number any more... I call the number and there is never an answer ...

ANYway ... aside from changing my number which I do not want to do ... Is there any way of getting these people to leave me alone ???
It seams to me that they are some collecting agency when I search the numbers on the internet .. I even told them to go on and send a cop over so they can come check my ID and to end this but thats the 1 time they decided to hang up on me .

This is going on now for about 2 1/2 yrs I guess .

yes there is -

every cell phone company has a legal department - you need to contact them - call customer service - ask for the legal department - they will pull the records of who is doing this and they will give them to your locl police department - so call them as well and tell them you are being harassed - file a complaint - they will get the info and that person will be dealt with - not by you - you don't need to worry

short answer: yes.

more complete answer: the 'how' depends on your local laws - federal laws apply everywhere.

if you have not kept a written record of the past <years> then the bad new is: you are starting from scratch.

talk to your local police about what constitutes harassment is in your state, and find out what information you need to record/keep track to file criminal charges.

if you still have the voice mail implying the caller was a law enforcement officer, that will generally be enough to start an immediate investigation.

given sufficient evidence the police can force the telephone company to cooperate.

you cell phone bill should list the numbers calling you. if it's a blocked ID, ask your cell company about blocking any call that does not show caller ID.

phone companies typically tell you they can't do anything for you - so you may have to sue the phone company to get their attention.

sounds like a bill collector - there are very specific laws regarding their activities. if they left a number turn that over to police.
if your were "the debtor" once you tell them not to call you, if they continue they're in violation of federal laws.

so go talk to the cops to find out exactly what you need to know, sharpen your pencil and keep paper handy.

no, it's not always an easy task . . .

and the bad news is, once the first bill collector gives up and whoever is behind it turns it over to a new collection agency, it starts all over again.

just called... they said this isn`t a legal issue ... but they were able to block 5 of the numbers they are calling me from for 90 days ...the other 4 numbers can`t be blocked... only 5 allowed ... they did say they are all coming from the same place .

I would have to file a report w/the police in order to get them all to stop calling.

a freidne of mine was getting threats and harrassing calls on her cell - she went to the police and filed a complaint - they told her that she had to call the cell phone company and talk to their legal department - most can go back almost 7 years for records of calls and where they came from - she signed a release to allow the police to look into it and its all over with now
