Here we are - a nice little family of cooks - with the number of active members that can be counted on our toes with "leftovers" - if you know what I mean.

But yet - we have 28,000 members - or should I say spammers that create nothing but headache for me.

Sometimes I wonder what I am doing here - it's so hard to enjoy a site like this with the good recipes and the great people when each time I enter the site it's overwhelming with these idiots.

If this site is for sale - don't look at the member count - it's just a spammer count.

I wish I could just take my family elsewhere to get away from it all.

Just venting........:(

you need to find another job. this one has done you in.

I have made multiple suggestions about how to control spam in vBulletin to you. they've been deleted or ignored. obviously either you or the Forum Admin actively does not wish to proactively control the spammer issue.

sorry - thems the facts. you are personally not required to like the facts, whether you like or dislike the facts does not change the facts. and obviously, you're having some issues with the facts.

fact is: it is completely unrealistic to expect one single individual moderator to manage a message board 24x7xcenturies.

I know for a fact Mama has been trying to get in touch with the admins here for ages with no reply. If it were up to Mama the upgrades would already be made to fight the spammers but she does not have the ability to make those changes.
I would love to see Mama start her own forum where we could all chat. She has maintained this one for the sake of keeping us all together for no compensation while going through tremendous personal loss.

I've done what I could with what I have to work with.
Can't bake a loaf of bread without the proper ingredients and equipment - if you know what I mean.
You can put all the blame on me - I will accept it - that's ok. If it makes anyone feel better - let me have it with both barrels. I've gone through so much in my life that piling more on doesn't bother me. So please - take it all out on me - no hard feelings.

I have a new blog on WordPress - and I am trying to figure out a way to include chat. I can include subscriber recipes easily - and I want that blog to be interactive. With the hell I've been through the past couple months - I am now starting to get some things done - not enough to brag about or be proud of. I am still questioning why all of it happened.

As far as the spammers go - I guess I've failed -
Dilbert feels so and I need another job as he says.

Mama, I'll follow wherever you go. You aren't the problem here. It's the spammers,admins lack of participation and the fact that only one person moderates this forum.
 
The last time I saw sign of the Administrator was literally a year ago this month when he showed up to rip Chatty Cathy a new one because of her deeply personal views about the Gulf Oil Spill (which she had visited)- and he subsequently ran her off for good because he had differing political views- and he thought as administrator that his voice should trump her's..

The administrator highly offended many of us at that time- myself included... we tried to engage him in dialogue- he ignored us and refused response. I slowed down my involvement then and almost swore the place off for good just like my friend Cathy did. At that time at least 3 others left that I know of for sure- and several others appear gone too- though they never contacted me so I cannot say for certain that that's why they left.

I care a great deal for Janie, mama and several other family members here but my fondness for and appreciation of the place has absolutely nothing to do w/ the administrator. I hold no regard for him whatsoever.

Warm hugs and kindest wishes to everyone here- but I don't give a tinker's damn for the administrator, and I wouldn't go to the trouble to fart his way even if he was down-wind of me.
 
Thank you Kev - if it wasn't for you guys I would have packed it in a long time ago - and if anyone knows anything about WordPress - I'm trying to figure out if I can set up a chat there - grrrrrrrrrr - I'm so confused right now - I feel like I've been in a fog for a long time.
 
Mama I will have to ask my sis about that. She runs her own forum set up something like this one but it is all about Mommy's and their kids.
I wish there were another moderator or two to help Mama with the place. I honestly don't think it is a job I would want. At least not on this forum. In order to be an effective moderator you need to have the admins be active and communicating with you. Mama has not had either. She has stuck it out a lot longer than I would have.
The only reason I come back here much is because I miss you guys. Kevin and I keep in touch via email for the most part.
 
I come on thew forum about everyday not always logging in (bad me). I do feel sorry for Mama she is fighting an up hill battle with the spammers, Let me know where and I will follow I think this is a good group of folks.

Thank you all and I just want to take you all to a more peaceful and spam - free place - I know that spammers are all over the place - so far I haven't been hit with them - but I am trying to figure out something I can do.
These are tons of recipe sites out there - this is the most unique - we have become a family - we share, support, laugh and cry together - we voice our opinions and even though we don't see eye to eye on everything - we do respect each other........a true family.
You are what have made this site.
 
I know folks can create their own groups thru Yahoo, for instance- but I don't have the know-how.

Janie and I have exchanged e-mails w/ one another danged near every day since the big ugly blow-up last June and I have loved sharing this w/ her. I consider her a true friend- we've gotten to know each other quite well and I am richer for it. I hope I am free to divulge that, Janie! If you'd rather I not share that just say the word and I will edit... :) I've also shared PM's and e-mails with a hand-full of others from SP- all quite rewardingly.
 
I no longer belong to facebook. I found them to be more invasive than I cared for. And way too much (crap) games, flower sending and stuff. More complicated than I care for. I am kinda simple soul. CF:)

To be totally honest, I'm kinda w/ you on that, CF. I find FB cumbersome, troublesome and as you said- a bit "invasive" in their options, contact methods and overall techniques. When I'm there I never feel fully aware of all options and never have the sense that anything is even halfway private, even in instances when I feel I've taken privacy precautions. Maybe there's a better way?
