Recipe: Annalivia Stew
Recipes using McCormick Whole Bay Leaves

- 2 lbs stewing steak, cubed
- 2 large onions, sliced
- 1/2 lb carrots, sliced
- 1 cup prunes, soaked
- 3 bay leaves
- 2 tbsp flour
- 2 tbsp canola oil
- 1 tsp parsley flakes
- 1/2 cup Guiness Stout
- 1/2 cup water
- Salt & Pepper
- Heat the canola oil and add bay leaves in a dutch oven (or oven safe large
pot).
- Let the bay leaves crackle but put the lid on the pan.
- Add beef; fry on all sides. When half done, add the onions and let them
gentle color to gold.
- Sprinkle with flour and brown.
- Add the Guiness Stout and water. A little more liquid may be needed, so add
a little stock to cover the meat.
- Season, and add parsley flakes, and carrots.
- Preheat oven to 350° F.
- Bring to boil on top of stove. Cover and place in oven for about 2 hours,
stirring a few times. Add a little more liquid if the stew looks too dry.
- Add the prunes (without liquid) about 1/2 hour before the stew is done.
This dish is best cooked, allowed to get cold, and gently reheated. Serve
with boiled potatoes.
