Sift flour together with the baking soda, salt, and spices.
Cream butter with sugar; stir in lemon rind, egg, vanilla extract and applesauce.
Blend well, then add walnuts and raisins. Stir well.
Drop batter by the spoonfull onto a greased cookie sheet about 2 - 2/12 inches apart.
Place into oven and bake for 20 minutes or until cooked through. Remove cookies from oven, allow to sit for 5 minutes, then move cookies from cookie sheet to a wire rack and allow to cool.
