Recipe: Bulgogi (Korean Grilled Beef)

- 1 lb beef, cut into very thin slices
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 1 tbsp sesame oil
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 2 tbsp scallions, chopped
- 2 tsp minced garlic
- 2 tbsp sesame seeds
- Cut beef across grain into thin strips
- Toast and crush the sesame seeds (you may use untoasted as well).
- Place the sesame seeds in a large zipper storage bag.
- Add sesame oil and sugar. Mix well.
- Combine the remaining ingredients. Mix well.
- Add beef to the bag, seal and refrigerate for 3 hours or overnight. Turn over a few times to make sure the marinade covers the beef well.
- Preheat oven to 350° F.
- Cover a large baking sheet with heavy aluminum foil, and lay the beef flat on the foil. Bake at until done.
Grilling Instructions
Instead of baking, you may also cook Bulgogi on a grill by cooking to 10-15 seconds on a side 1" from hot coals. Test for doneness.
