Recipe: Buttermilk Bread

Buttermilk Bread Ingredients
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 4 cups water
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 3 tbsp dry yeast
- 1/2 cup canola oil
- 1 tbsp sea salt
- 12 cups unbleached wheat flour
To make Buttermilk Bread
- Heat buttermilk and water to lukewarm (about 85° F.). Add sugar and yeast. Stir to dissolve. Let sit for 10 - 15 minutes..
- Mix in the canola oil and sea salt. Add flour to make a stiff dough. You may need more or less flour. Knead well.
- Put in greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth and let rise until double.
- Punch down the Buttermilk Bread dough and shape in 5 loaves and put in greased 9x5 bread pans.
- Cover the pans with a damp cloth, and let rise until doubled.
- Bake 375° F. 30 to 40 minutes or until brown on top.
- Remove from pans and cool on a wire rack. Brush melted butter on top while still hot. Don't slice until cool.
