- Combine sugar, milk, cocoa, syrup, and salt in a saucepan.
- Cook until mix reaches soft ball stage*.
- Let cool slightly, then beat in butter and vanilla.
- Continue beating until fudge cools enough to hold its shape.
- Let harden and then cut into 2" x 2" squares.
*This recipe requires a candy thermometer.
