Are you avoiding places because of the flu?

jglass you are one of my favorites on Spice Place and from your writing I can see you have the biggest kindest heart in the world, I did not mean for you to explain what you wrote. I agree about keeping my son home if I believe he has the flu, it is not fair to send him to school to share his flu. My son is asthmatic he has an allergic asthmatic reaction to certain environments mould, dust, dog hair on carpets etc., he begins to cough and I have to explain to the school nurse that he is not contagious, his asthmatic allergy triggers a tickled throat that causes him to cough, there are many types of coughs which I never knew until I had a quick lesson from my son's doctor. Sometimes it is difficult to differentiate whether it is flu or asthma because the symptoms are similar.

Just don't put your unwashed hands on your face or in your mouth.

There's no need to behave like someone with OCD. If the bacteria is airborne it's a total waste of time anyway. If it's not - just keep your hands clean.
Disposable hankies instead of linen is always a good idea. We never use linen.

By being to clean we can reduce our bodies ability to recognise and fight bacteria and viruses. A little bit of dirt doesn't do you any harm.

For instance we don't change the bed linen every time we should cough or sneeze in the bedroom, we don't have clean pillows and duvets every day. I don't covers I mean the article. Bacteria is haboured in soft furnishings also.

The days when a house was given a good airing, have long gone. Open your windows once a week and let the air blow though. Best cleaning method and free.

Janie you are just so honest, and it isn't funny; but it sort of made me chuckle at the very though of all those chewed up wads laying around in the parking lots in your part of TN how disgustingly horrid, yet it would take an act of congress in the state of KY (home of the tobacco growing industry for the US) to try and pass a law prohibiting spitting wads out in public places! Heck in your neck of the woods it is probably still legal to smoke in many establishments, or at least not enforced! One of the agents I work with dips and he keeps spit cans in his office e-w-w-w-w, the owner (his brother) always makes despairing remarks (in vain) about him getting his spit cans out of his office! I really just keep myself immune to it for the most past and try not to notice it and let it roll off my shoulders! To me it is alot better than smelling cigarette smoke.

They let people smoke in two of the three grocery stores here in town. I asked the manager once if it was prohibited and he said the people who work there have to smoke outside but customers can smoke inside. He gave me some big tale about there having to be a county wide ban before it would be non-smoking. I said oh yeah then why have all the restaurants in town gone non-smoking? I have no problem with people smoking or chewing but with my allergies and asthma I would like to get my groceries without inhaling smoke lol. Try guiding a blindman around those wads of tobacco yuck. Bleh
Your are spot on about this area being one of the last places to ban smoking in public. I had noticed several weeks ago that some of the fields that normally have tobacco in them had been used to grow sunflower seeds this year. Some of the farmers were under contract to grow sunflowers for birdseed. Dont get me wrong there are still many many fields of tobacco.

It's not too bad here. We don't go anywhere other than School, Vaulting, and Boys scouts.

Any place you go here you are going to see and here many sick people. Mostly sick children and elderly. I was at the store the other day and a woman had a little girl with her who looked really bad. She threw up right in her Moms shopping cart.
My sis had to take her 5 year old to the doctor last week for a fever. The doctor warned them before they came in that was the worst place to catch the flu right now. My niece was diagnosed with strep that day and sure enough two days later both kids and my sis all had flu symptoms. The 2 year old came down with pink eye on top of that and the cold my sis has had for weeks flared back worse than before. I called to check on her today and she sounded so tired still. Thankfully it just seems to be the seasonal flu.

So far Jon and I havent caught it. Hope everyone else is doing well.

H1N1 (swine flu) is less serious than any of the annual flu's that occur. IMHO there are other reasons for the media hypes. I also find it curious that he H1N1 sticks around, yet all the other flu's change all the time and requires a year or two advance warning to 'guess' which flu is going to occur. And this year's flu shot does contain the H1N1 'vaccine'.

The WHO (World Health Organization) and other world agencies seem to have another agenda in this arena, so I would do my own research and not just accept our governments as doing things in 'our' best interests.
