Artificial Preservatives

Are artificial preservatives REALLY necessary, in the commercial foods we buy? Or is it just that the food industry insists that there's a need for them, when there really isn't?
The same goes for colorings and flavorings!

There are some preservatives that are needed in our foods to keep them safe.
Unfortunately there are some preservatives that will keep our foods TOO long in my book - which means when you die you don't have to be embalmed - you're slowly doing it yourself.
I don't believe in some of these "expiration" dates. I have my own views on them.
I do not believe in MSG or any of the other 24 or so names it goes by.
I believe in fresh cooking - as much as possible.
I don't like all these additivies.
Ditto with colorings and flavorings.

(my opinion)

I'll shut up for now................

Not all preservatives are "artificial" and yes most are necessary if you want the items to last long enough for them to appear on your store shelves and purchase them. But thanks to technology and research, which most people seem to take for granted, efforts to achieve longer storage with less preservatives is occurring. Many of these things did not occur 10, 20, 30 years ago. Even refrigeration and freezing is a relatively new technology if you look at your history.

I am moving back to food in its simplest form, organic gardening, backyard chickens, etc. because I truly believe the cancer plague, Alzheimers, etc, etc. is coming directly from the hormones in our meat and pestcides on our vegetables. Josh and I also eat alot more "game" meat now.
Mu 2 cents ;)
