For me, I have encountered those terms but not "pat" they called. Anyways, nowadays
depends on either grams, tablespoons, lbs, kgs, etc.. Most important is, that you know how
to convert all measurements on your own measurements.

a knob of butter is basically a square of butter from the stick - not a pat - just a couple tablespoons

Then I was doing it right - I guessed 3 tbs.
