Fair foods - tried any odd and/or new ones?

Funnel Cakes

3 eggs, well-beaten
2 cups milk
4 cups sifted flour
1/3 cup sugar
½ tsp. salt
1½ tsp. vanilla
1 Tbsp. baking powder
Oil for deep frying
Confectioner's sugar

Beat the eggs with the milk, and gradually beat in the flour, sugar, salt and baking powder. Add vanilla and beat until VERY smooth. Holding the opening of a funnel CLOSED, fill the funnel with batter; open the end of the funnel, allowing dough to run out in a stream into deep fat at 375°. Move the funnel in a circle pattern from inside to out. Fry for 2-3 minutes, turning once until both sides are brown. Drain on paper. Sprinkle with confectioner's sugar.

Fried Dill Pickles

1 egg, beaten
3 1/2 cups flour, plus 1 Tbsp.
1 cup milk
1 Tbsp. worcestershire sauce
6 drops hot sauce (like Tabasco)
1 tsp. salt
3/4 tsp. pepper
1 qt. sliced dill pickles
Salt
Pepper
Vegetable oil

Combine egg, 1 tbsp flour, milk, worcestershire sauce, and hot
sauce; stirring well. Set aside. Combine 3.1/2 cups flour, salt,
and pepper; mix well. Dip drained pickles into milk mixture and
dredge in flour mixture. Deep fry at 350 degrees until pickles
float to the surface. Drain.

I might just have to try making the fried dill pickles. I wonder if my children will like them since they go through a big jar of pickles a week.

You can try this:

FRIED OREO COOKIES

2 eggs -- beaten
1 1/2 cups milk
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cups cooking oil
about 20 Oreo cookies

In a bowl, combine eggs and milk. Sift together flour, baking powder and salt. Add to egg mixture and beat with electric mixer until smooth. (Check to see if mixture flows easily). Fried Candy Bars

The miniature candy bars work very well for this recipe.

1 egg
1 cup milk
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
Pinch of salt
Candy bars (Mars, Snickers, Almond Joy, Kit Kat or Twix)

-Chill or freeze the candy bars
-Combine egg, milk and vegetable oil in a cup.
-In a bowl, combine flour, baking powder and salt. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix well with a wire whisk. Cover and chill for a few minutes while the oil heats.
-Remove batter from the refrigerator and adjust the consistency if necessary. Heat about 4 cups of oil or shortening to 375 degrees F. Dip the chilled candy bar in the batter and gently place into the oil. Cook only until the outside is golden. Remove and drain on brown paper. Allow to cool for a minute as the inside can easily burn your mouth.

Tasty Tasty. I can't imagine how many calories those are. Oh well I will just have to exercise more if I eat one. I am sure my kids will love to make these.

pineapple whip is my fair food weakness. yummmm.....

I don't eat fried foods much and they make me sick to my stomach when I do...therefore I especially aviod the fried stuff at the fair.

the best food I ever had at the fair probably wouldn't even be considered your typical fair food. It was a chopped sirlion sandwich topped with sauteed mushrooms, served on crusty bread...mmmm

Ok, what what is krispy kreme chicken? I have heard of krispy Kreme donuts.

Oh, speaking of fair foods! I tried fried oreos today!! They are now one of my guilty pleasures.... :)

pineapple whip is kind of an ice cream/sherbert made with pineapple juice. It's really yummy. I made it at home once, and it was good, just not as good as the fair's.

Medako, Can you share the recipe? That actually sounds good. I love pineapple.

FRESH PINEAPPLE SHERBET
1/2 cup sugar
1 pineapple, cored, trimmed, reserving 6 large wedges for garnish,
puréed in a blender, and forced through a fine sieve (3 cups strained
purée)
1 1/2 cups well-chilled milk
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
fresh mint sprigs for garnish if desired

In a small saucepan combine the sugar and 1/2 cup water, bring the mixture to a boil, and simmer it for 5 minutes, or until it is reduced to 1/2 cup. Let the sugar syrup cool completely. In a bowl whisk together the pineapple purée, the sugar syrup, the milk, the lemon juice, and pinch of salt. Chill the mixture until it is cold and freeze it in an ice-cream freezer according to the manufacturer's instructions. Serve the sherbet in scoops on dessert plates garnished with the reserved pineapple wedges and the mint.
