I really like Rotel, it is awesome to use in any Mexican dish b/c of the spices. Though I usually buy the store generic b/c it comes in bigger cans so it's easier to substitute for regular canned tomatoes (whereas the Rotel can is smaller than a regular tomatoes can).

we love Rotel. for the longest time I used to think that Rotel was what the tomato & chilies were called. It took me quite a while to realize it was the brand. *oops*

We love rotel in our house. Every New Years we make dip with it and Velvetta. As well we add it into Macaroni and cheese. As well we make salsa out of it.

I love Rotel! I use it in my Chili...and of course in the Velveeta - YUM!

Never heard about the word rotel so i look it up on the internet..Thanks to yahoo.com , here's what i found out:

Rotel - A brand of canned tomatoes preseasoned with chopped green chili peppers, salt and spices. They now come in a number of variations including Mexican and Extra Spicy. Most common recipe is to mix 1 pound of Velveeta cheese and a can of Rotel tomatoes and some chopped fresh cilantro, heated together and served with tortilla chips. These add zest to any number of recipes.

I had never heard of this before till I came across this thread. Wondering if there are any chances of finding it in the superstores here. Will try next time I go grocery shopping.

You can put it in most anything.

At the very least, try putting it in some melted Velveeta next Superbowl Sunday.

Excuse my ignorance, but what exactly is Velveeta?
everyone seems to know except for me

velveeta is a cheese product that melts down much better/easier than a regular cheese. If I had to compare it to something, it would be kinda like the cheese you would get on nachos - only it's usually a little creamier.

I have heard of them but never used it.
Does it contain only tomatoes and chillies?
Then we can even make them at home right, what's the need to buy?

Yes, rotel is basically diced tomatoes and green chilies. The flavors have had a chance to marry since they're canned together.

I think it's more a matter of convenience than anything. Sure, you can combine the 2 on your own, but it's more convenient if it's already done for you.
