How about Cowboy recipes???

Bubba, does every thing in history have to be a race issue? Many of my ancestors, the Irish fought in the civil war too and went west after it was over. I wonder if half of them were a quarter of the cowboys and that's why cowboys liked to drink, fight and eat potatoes. Us Irish are such a bad influence.

Chef, just making the point about entertainment vs real history. Yeah, plenty of Irish and Scots went west. Did you know the Chief of the Cherokee is a Ross? The men who went west and became cowboys were generally men with no other prospects of honest employment and social outcasts and a pretty rough and tumble bunch.

Sounds good but I have a question. I read that bear sign had maybe fruit in them. Also, do you have a recipe for baked bear sign? I'm new to this website so I hope I can figure out how to find your answer!!!

gina, the recipe I posted is pretty basic. Just about every cook had their own variations and personal touches. What I posted can be made in a trail camp by a decent chuck wagon cook. As for baking, I don't know. Since they're a donut and donuts tend to be fried I'm out of my league on baking them. Maybe someone with more experience with baking can help.

Gina I would not see any reason you could not add fruit as you so desire, either fresh or dried! I am fond of Banana Fritters and I see no reason you could not add banana to the recipe, just adjust the moisture lever to compensate!

By the way welcome to our Forum!!! We love getting new members! I hope you will figure out real quick how to use this site, it really is not that hard. Your best bet to read an answer to a question is just to go under the tab called QUICK LINKS and then drop down to TODAY"S POSTS and then click on the thread you posted your question to and see if someone has answeed your question! You will get the hang of it soon, & Good Luck:)

And once again WELCOME!

No insinuation involved. Just a real fact about our culture. Only thing more powerful than TV is an Internet email that MUST be passed on to everyone on your address list. :D

RE: "Bubba, does every thing in history have to be a race issue?"

IC, with all due respect, Bubba offers a very legitimate and interesting point. Most of us have a pretty narrow-minded version of what a "cowboy" is/was. Many of us actually think cowboys were all male. I do agree with you that it's time we've gotten past our differences and that which divides us- but remembering and acknowledging certain truths in history is good. Afterall, there are certain things we hope never to forget- I would think. (as a perfect example- I post many personal photos showing myself, and I also reveal a lot about my personal life, but if I chose to be more secretive, how many would just "naturally" assume I was a white male?)

Hey I am a green female from Orlack, the 1598th planet from Pluto! Hee-hee

Sorry Kev I could not resist!

You made a good point there, cause remember when you first joined I thought you were a woman who some mean ole' guy jilted and left you broken hearted!:) I was like posting you as if you were one of the girls, and giving you all my moral support and "pep talks", wow that seems such a long time ago Bro!

All I know is that Kevin had a Virtual Pot Luck and teased everyone with that cake and didn't share it. I didn't even see the empty plate with a ring of dried icing or the crumb remnants.
