Little Bites/Tapas/Meze/Appetizers

KYH thank you for all the very helpful advice. I was actually thinking this over just the other day, the melon ballers were the first thing that popped into my mind! This will be fun and some of these items I already own.

Don't forget, too, Cathy, to adapt tools from other crafts. You know, I assume, that the whole microplane thing started as woodworking tools, not kitchen graters?

In one of my books it shows baby zukes being hollowed out by using a woodworker's gouge. Not a bad idea. Lot's of woodcarving tools make sense in the kitchen. Also tools from a potters workshop. Etc.

Of course, if you're really flush, you could invest in one of those multi-piece vegetable carving kits. But that sends you down the path of a whole nuther hobby.

Cathy, after you get the Martha Stewart Book (which, btw, is available used on Amazon for as little as three bucks), your next one should be Jennifer Joyce's Small Bites: tapas, sushi, mezze, antipasti, and other finger foods.

While her recipes are very good, and very inspiring, it's her presentations you need to see. And her methods and techniques instructions. Unlike Stewart, who presents those separately, Joyce weaves them in to the recipes---along with all sorts of other tips and aides. All in all, a great book that belongs on the bookshelf of anyone interested in the small plates trend.
