Well, I finally saw it, and Man- I was NOT disappointed!
Maybe I was just in one of those weepy moods that guys seem to barely admit having- but am I the only one who teared-up frequently at all the nostalgia? Dang- I just MISS Julia SO much.
I loved the way the film showed the love-story she and Paul lived. And the vintage Paris was SO fun to see.
I came home and was inspired to pull not only all my Julia volumes from the bookshelf in the kitchen, but also all my France travel volumes from the shelf in the living room!
BTW- I posted about this here long ago, but my first Julia cookbook was her "The Way to Cook" in '89. Seeing the list of her past books on the inside cover- I became obsessed and had to own as many as I could! This was back before the internet- I searched at every bookstore I could, and found that most were out of print. However weeks later I happened onto a large box at an antique's market labled "Cookbooks". Right on top was Julia's "Mastering the Art...". The WHOLE BOX was dirt cheap so in a hurry, I picked-up the entrie thing, figuring even if the remaining cookbooks under Julia's weren't that great, I wouldn't be out much $. I stuck it in the trunk and didn't make time to search thru the box for a couple weeks, but imagine my JOY when I discovered several other Julia-treasures towards the bottom of the box! (Along w/ a couple of hard-to-find James Beard titles, too!)
Lastly- I kept reading about all the dinner dates and fancy-schmancy suppers folks were planning for this movie-outing. Guess what Mom & I dined on after it was over?
Julia's Dover Sole Meuniére? Nope!
Her Beef Bourguignon? Nope!
We had something else that Julia often admitted to LOVING: McDonald's Hamburgers!
