Well who here will be having the traditional "black-eyed peas and cabbage" this Saturday. I quess thats one tradition my family has adheared to (except the kids) more than the Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners.
Oh yes! We'll be having some of those "lucky" black eyed peas for New Years! My recipe of choice is:
Black Eyed Pea Soup
1# dry black eyed peas
1# pan sausage
1 large chopped onion
Salt, pepper and garlic powder, to taste.
1 can Rotel Tomatoes
1 can chopped tomatoes
Water
Place sausage and chopped onion in large soup pan. Brown till onions are clear. Add rest of ingredients, stir, cover and cook for a few hours on medium heat until peas are to your liking and stock is thicker.
We will eat some good ole cornbread with it, which adds nothing for good luck--- but sure is good eatin'!!
We eat soups for lunches a lot, so this big pot full will last and be enjoyed a few days!
Well. Back on subject, I just checked in at the grocery store and not a single cabbage head in sight. Not to mention, no dried black-eyed peas either. Unless someone restocks real quick I'm not going to be lucky or rich in 2011. Well, I had plenty last year and didn't get rich in 2010 either.
Well JW yesterday morning our local finally had a shipment of cabbage and even found the dried black-eyed peas back in stock. Again congrats to JW and Janie and Jon on their anniversary.
Happy New Year Everyone! I hope 2011 brings great things for every one. May the New Year inspire bigger things from and for all of us!
I was off on New Year's Eve but took the tame road- I don't party much at all. I made a fancy banana/fudge sheet-cake to take to my young nephew's church "lock-in" New Year's Eve Night. My sister and bro-in-law stayed and were the chaperone's for 30 screaming 12 yr. iolds (Oh Lordy!) and I went back home and got cozy on the couch w/ my cats and a movie... then Saturday New year's Day I worked a double shift... And that was my holiday! How was yours?
So far - the year started off quiet. I just made a toast chicken dinner for us - nothing fancy. After the rotten year 2010 was, I still feel like the bottom is going to go out from under me! Gotta shake that - not good to hold on to! I'm just glad that 2011 is here!
Happy 2011 guys.
We did not get out and do anything. Waiting til Tuesday or so and then we plan to go to our fav chinese place. We figured it would be crazy busy everywhere over the weekend. For the past two nights here you could sit on the balcony and watch them arrest drunk drivers off the street in front of here. So many blue flashing lights it at times looked like Christmas all over again lol.
