Pasta For Christmas

My FIL has decided we are having a pasta Christmas. He is making spaghetti and meatballs. The other daughter in law is making lasagna and Im making baked ziti. I will make two loaves of roasted garlic french bread and a couple of desserts. I was thinking of making a big bowl of salad and homemade croutons. He plans to make his dressing and still wants coleslaw lol. Should be an interesting dinner  Sounds crazy to me but what ever he wants lol. I thought I would make a couple batches of these pull aparts to serve with everything else.

Cheesy Garlic Pull Aparts

2 tablespoons butter
3 garlic cloves, minced
2 teaspoons dried parsley
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1 (8 ounce) can biscuits (10 biscuits)
2 cups mozzarella cheese (can use less)
2 tablespoons parmesan cheese, grated
pizza sauce

Heat oven to 425.
Melt butter in small bowl. Stir garlic, parsley and garlic powder into butter.
Pour butter mixture into pan.
Cut biscuits into 4 sections each. Place in pan. Top with both cheeses.
Bake for 10-15 minutes until biscuits are cooked through.
Invert upside down onto a plate. (I take a knife around the edges of pan to release stuck on cheese before inverting to plate.).
Serve with warm pizza sauce.

On the bright side this is going to be much easier on me as far as the cooking goes.

Janie these sound nice and really easy too! I think the Pasta Christmas dinner is cool, and a different from the ordinary fare!

Yeah Jon likes the idea also. Im not sure where the dressing and slaw are gonna fit in lol.
It is gonna be loads easier on me. It will be the first Christmas in years where I havent been up since 3-4am cooking.

We always had tons of homemade pasta for the holiday in addition to at least one roasted turkey (sometimes 2 or 3) and a really large roast beef. Tons of taters, gravies, veggies, salads, breads, rolls - and then all the goodies - pies, cakes, cookies, candies, fancy desserts. when I was a kid I thought everyone ate pasta on holidays!

I'm such an old fashioned girl, I have never entertained the thought of doing something different for the hoildays. Thank you Mama, I think this year we are going to follow suit and do a completely Italian feast (have to keep the pecan pie in there somewhere;)) My son thinks it's a grand idea.:)

They are talking about having the pasta dinner on Christmas Eve. I have two cornish hens to make for Jon and I on Christmas. Ill make oyster dressing, potatoes, mac and cheese, rolls and salad for us. Jon wants chocolate custard pie or bread pudding for dessert.

Oh, I see;) Josh and I usually eat light, a homemade clam chowder (in anticipation of stuffing ourselves like turkeys:p), attend Christmas Eve church services and go to bed early. I no longer cook the big turkey for just the two of us, but serve a baked ham, with cream cheese mashed potatoes, butter beans, homemade yeast rolls, and pecan pie. :) But this year we will forego the chowder and have homemade PIZZA!

Hey Janie we had the most splendid pasta dinner tonight and I made those biscuits like they serve at Red Lobster to go with our meal, Thanks for mentioning Pasta for Christmas:)

thats exactly what we did last year for a family dinner and everyone enjoyed it we are planning to do the same this year

Janie,
Cathy and I must have been on the same wavelength last night:p My son had webelos and I needed something fast and he loves Pizza Hut's garlic cheese bread (no sauce) and he wanted to go out, but I didn't have time so I remembered your recipe and made them. Josh's response was "Wow, Mom these are as good as Pizza Hut's, can we have some more tomorrow night?"

Julie

P.S. I did insist he eat a salad with it;)

I actually thought Id make those bread sticks, dipping sauce, garlic pull aparts, baked ziti, salad & roasted garlic french bread. Desserts will be cherry pie, brownies & cupcakes.
He plans to make spaghetti and the other daughter in law mentioned making lasagna.
My idea of spaghetti is not spaghetti with that hunts sauce in the cans which is what he has bought lol. I like store bought sauce fine..just not that kind.

But wait Janie that Hunt's kind is affordable, and best of all it is a good starter and you can improve upon it with a little added this-n-that [ wine, more sauted garlic, onion, bell pepper, oregano, parsley, thyme, splash of hot sauce and mushrooms:D Does your FIL know that???

and for the kicker get a small pork roast 1 lb to 5lb cook it in oven for 3 hours at 325 or untill done then submerge it in ur sauce and simmer it for 4 hours you will not beleive the flavor it adds to your sauce thats my secret for fantastic spagetti sauce try it next time you make your sauce and let me know what you think about it .

I sure will THANKS for the great TIP!!!! My cousin used to put pork chops in her sauce while she'd let it simmer (which was all day long) and I never knew why, oh yeah she never invited me to stay and have some of her spaghetti:( But I am most def. going to give this a try!:):p

4 hours of simmering atleast if your not in a hurry simmer for 8 -20 hours to get the most flavor out of the pork roast and it just falls apart and oh so tender it melts in your mouth

Well he wants me to make some spaghetti sauce for his spaghetti. I found this recipe online so I was thinking of doing a double or triple batch of it. I will probably use 28oz cans of crushed tomatoes instead of the 14.5 oz cans.

Spaghetti Sauce

Ingredients

1 lb ground beef, browned and drained
1 (14 1/2 ounce) can tomatoes, diced
1 can tomato paste
1 can tomato sauce
1 green pepper, diced
2 cloves garlic, crushed
1/2 teaspoon ground pepper (or to taste)
1 tablespoon oregano (or to taste)
1 tablespoon basil (or to taste)

Directions
1 Brown and drain the ground beef, add all ingredients and stir well.
2 Bring to a light boil then simmer covered for at least 30 min.
3 May need to add a little water if it gets too thick.
4 The longer it simmers the more flavorful it will get.

I got some really beautiful sugar cookies done in Santa, snowmen and Christmas trees with the red and green sprinkles. I am planning to make some cupcakes topped with LOTs of buttercream frosting with a cute cookie nestled in the frosting standing up. Probably make some cheesecake brownies and Jons Dad wants cherry pie.
