Vacation Eating

So funny what we're used to, and what we've been conditioned to like and believe!

Being raised in Illinois, I never knew a snowless winter. And my 13 years in Alaska? Well- I don't need to say a word there!

Only Christmas I ever had with no snow was one I spent in Hawaii- let myself get shanghai'd into going with friends. Know what? I absolutely hated it. I cried like a baby at night with my face pushed into my pillow to muffle the sound. Spending the holidays in 80 degree weather with no snow was like the biggest mistake I ever made. Could never do it again.

To this day when I hear Hawai'in music or happen onto anything even remotely tropical I get very negative flashbacks and steer clear. Weird. I just grew up with four distinct seasons and to me winter is cold and snowy.

4 distinct seasons, Chubby?

What part of Illionis is that? When I lived up there we only had three seasons. The were called: July, August, & Winter.

As I used to tell folks, up there we had ten months of winter and two months pretty later in the fall. Then one of our hosts in Lapland topped that. "It's like here," he smiled. "We've got ten months of winter and two months of poor snowmobiling."
