2 cups sifted flour
3 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
2 cups sugar
1/2 cup butter
4 egg yolks
4 egg whites
1 cup pecans, chopped
1 square grated chocolate
3/4 cup milk
1 tsp vanilla
Beat egg whites until stiff.
Add 1 cup sugar gradually beating until they stand in stiff glossy peaks.
Fold in pecans and chocolate. Line bottom of well-greased tube pan with wax paper.
Spread meringue over bottom and 3/4 up sides.
Sift flour together with other dry ingredients.
Cream butter; add remaining cup of sugar.
Add egg yolks; beat well.
Combine milk and vanilla.
Add alternately with dry ingredients to creamed mixture.
Pour into meringue-lined pan.
Bake at 325° F. for 65 to 75 minutes. Cool in pan 20 minutes before turning out.
