  1. Beat egg whites until stiff.
  2. Add 1 cup sugar gradually beating until they stand in stiff glossy peaks.
  3. Fold in pecans and chocolate. Line bottom of well-greased tube pan with wax paper.
  4. Spread meringue over bottom and 3/4 up sides.
  5. Sift flour together with other dry ingredients.
  6. Cream butter; add remaining cup of sugar.
  7. Add egg yolks; beat well.
  8. Combine milk and vanilla.
  9. Add alternately with dry ingredients to creamed mixture.
  10. Pour into meringue-lined pan.
  11. Bake at 325° F. for 65 to 75 minutes. Cool in pan 20 minutes before turning out.
