Devil's Food Cake Ingredients
- 1 cup butter or margarine, softened
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 cups sugar
- 5 eggs
- 2 sq unsweetened chocolate, melted or 1/2 cup cocoa
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 2 1/2 cups flour
- 2 tsps vanilla
To make Devil's Food Cake
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees
- Grease and flour a 9 x 13 inch baking pan
- Beat butter and sugar.
- Add one egg at a time to butter mixture; beat well.
- Add melted chocolate or cocoa to butter mixture.
- Mix baking soda to buttermilk.
- Mix salt and flour together.
- Add flour mixture, buttermilk mixture and vanilla to butter mixture; beat well.
- Pour into a greased and floured 9 x 13 inch baking pan.
- Bake Devil's Food Cake for 25 - 30 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
Chocolate Icing
- 1 box confectioners sugar
- 1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened
- 1/8 tsp salt
- 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
- 3 - 4 tbsps milk
- 6 tbsps cocoa for choloate frosting (optional)
To make Chocolate Icing
- Combine all ingredients; beat well.
- If chocolate icing is desired add 6 tbsps cocoa.
- Spread frosting over top of cake.
