I prefer the dishwasher as I believe it gets the dishes cleaner and certainly more sterile since it is hotter than water out of the tap that you would use to hand wash with.
I love my dishwasher wish it was bigger but love it anyways. I also wash them before i put them in just for an extra wash, throwing them in the dishwasher also appears to help with water spots; those are annoying.
I dont have a dishwasher. I have had one before when I was in apartments. I did like the convenience of a dishwasher. I think I used to use cascade plus. I would always rinse them first.
We have a Kenmore dishwasher and it is AWESOME. We could not live without it. We use Cascade Complete powder (it was top rated by consumer reports) and our dishes are always clean, we never have a problem unless something was baked on to begin with and then we soak it first.
Dishwashers use less water than washing in the sink which i found interesting (ours is energy efficient). Plus i love that it gets the dishes sanitized and much cleaner than i would washing in the sink. And it saves so much time too!
