Eveyone around here always has cabbage on New Years Day.
I can hide about any veggie in my hubby's food except peas. He can always detect that sweetness.

This New Year's I'm making a big turkey dinner with all the trimmings - why? In Thanksgiving that 2009 is finally over. Wasn't the best year for me - and I am so glad to see it go!

Well I got a new air conditioner in the apartment today. When they tore out the old one the wall behind it was covered in black mold. Now I know why my allergies and asthma have been so bad.

janie, I ceratinly identify with and feel your pain regarding a lot of what you share! I've been out of professional cooking so long now that although at times I miss, it... I have enjoyed enough quiet holidays at home without the stress and crowds that sometimes I can't believe I ever fed the masses and endured that craziness for so long! And even now when I DO cook at home- I find w/ each holiday and each event I scale-down more and more and limit the dishes, simplify more, etc. If I keep going at this rate, I figure by about 2012 when folks come over to eat the only thing on my table will be the salt & pepper shakers! :)

Just the thought of crowds you have endured makes me shudder lol.
I am really glad the big family thing is once a year. I made it much harder on myself by doing a big dinner for my brother to close to the inlaws family thing. Next time Ill know better.
