Make him study some home-ec/cooking classes as a minor.

I agree with Brook on this one. I loved my time cooking in a restaurant, but I did not love those crazy hours, intensely stressful hours mind you, and what have you done for me lately aspect of the restaurant business.

I prefer the home "chef" role myself. Maybe catering someday, but the margins there are not much better, but at least the day in day out, 7am - 10pm hours are not there.

Being 'The new Stepmom"...his Dad and I have only been married a year. I have not said a lot about the situation.I have wanted too...lol...this new son of mine has floundered since starting college at 18...changed his major 3 times....I'm afraid he does not have the staying power it will take. He does love to cook...and has worked in a resturante. But still I'm doubtfull.....I hope this year he has taken off will give him time to really think about everything and all the finances that it will take before he makes a comittment.
He did not attempt to even find a job this summer and as yet no job... comes point in time when parents have to let kids make it on their own....he still has a lot of growing up to do at 22.

He will settle in eventually. Some people just take a little longer to get it done than others. Encouragement goes a long way, but so does reinforcing the fact that this may be the last shot he has at daddy picking up the tab on his life.
