Peel and cut potatoes into 1/2" cubes. Boil together potatoes, onion, allspice, salt, and water until the potatoes mash easily. Remove from stove and skim out the allspice. Drain off liquid and mash potatoes. If the liquid does not measure 4 cups, add additional water. Combine liquid and mashed potatoes, add sour cream and vinegar. Reheat to boiling and serve hot. you may add white pepper and celery salt to taste.
