Ingredients in German Sauerkraut
- 2 pounds cabbage
- 3 tablespoons butter or margarine
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 apple, sliced
- 1 potato
- 1/2 cup white wine
- salt and pepper, to taste
To Make German Sauerkraut
- Cut up head of cabbage and remove core.
- Shred cabbage in a food processor.
- Melt butter in a large pot and add shredded cabbage.
- Stir cabbage until thoroughly coated with butter.
- Add onion and apple..
- Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Cover mixture with water and simmer.
- Cook until cabbage is tender, about 10 minutes.
- Grate in the raw potato, to give a nice texture.
- Add wine right before serving.
