- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 1 cup white sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 cup milk
- Rind of 1 lemon
- 1/2 cups flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup walnuts
- Cream shortening and white sugar; beat in eggs.
- Sift dry ingredients; add alternately with milk and mix until blended.
- Add lemon and walnuts.
- Place in paper-lined loaf tins.
- Bake 40 to 45 minutes at 325° F.
- Remove from oven.
- While hot, pour over loaf juice of lemon mixed with 1/2 cup white sugar.
- Let stand 20 minutes.
