1/2 cup flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 egg
1/3 cup sugar
1 tablespoon butter or margarine, melted and cooled
1 package chopped dates, 8 ounces
1/4 cup chopped walnuts
Lemon Glaze
1 tablespoon milk
1 tablespoon butter or margarine
1 cup sifted confectioners sugar
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon lemon peel
Sift flour, baking powder, and salt and mix together and set aside. Beat egg, add sugar gradually, mix well. Blend in butter or margarine. Stir in dates and nuts; gradually add flour mixture, mix thoroughly. Turn into greased 8 inch square baking pan, spread evenly. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 - 30 minutes. Cool. In saucepan heat milk with butter or margarine. Stir in sifted confectioners sugar until smooth. Blend in lemon juice and lemon peel. Spread lemon glaze on top. Cut into sticks and serve.
