• 1 cup sifted flour
• 3/4 tsp baking soda
• 1/2 tsp salt
• 1 tsp ground cinnamon
• 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
• 3/4 cup soft shortening (Crisco)
• 1-1/3 cup light brown sugar
• 2 eggs, beaten
• 1 tsp vanilla extract
• 2 cups uncooked oats
• 1 cup raisins
• 20 maraschino cherries, finely chopped

1. Sift together flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
2. Combine shortening with sugar.
3. Add beaten egg and vanilla.
4. Add sifted dry ingredients and oats.
5. Mix in raisins and cherries.
6. Drop by heaping teaspoon full onto lightly greased cookie sheet.
7. Preheat oven to 350° F and bake 12-15 minutes.

Makes about 3 1/2 dozen Oatmeal Cookies.
