• 6 eggs, separated
• 1 cup flour
• 1 cup sugar
• 2 tbsp baking powder
• 1/2 tsp salt
• 1 lb chopped walnuts

Syrup

• 3 cups sugar
• 2 1/2 cups water
• slice lemon
• stick of cinnamon
• 3 whole cloves (optional)
• 3 tbsp honey

Prepare syrup first, in order to cool.

1. Combine sugar, water, lemon, cinnamon, and cloves.
2. Boil for 18 minutes.
3. Add honey and set aside.
4. Remove lemon and cinnamon sticks.

Prepare cake

1. Sift flour, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon.
2. Beat egg whites until stiff and add sugar gradually.
3. Add well-beaten egg yolks. Slowly fold in dry ingredients and nuts.
4. Mix well and bake in a 9” x 13" pan ” pan at 350° F. for 35 minutes.
5. Remove from oven and while still hot, pour the cooled syrup over cake.
6. Let stand for a while (syrup will be entirely absorbed).
7. Cut into diamonds, i.e. long parallel slices crossed with diagonal parallel cuts.
