Recipe: Saffron Bread

Saffron Bread Ingredients
- 2 cups lukewarm water
- 2 tbsp dry yeast
- 1/2 tsp saffron
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 3/4 cup melted butter
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 egg
- 8 cups flour
- Soften yeast in 1/4 cup water.
- Soften saffron in 1/4 cup water.
- Mix together remaining 1 1/2 cups water, sugar, melted butter, salt and egg.
- Stir in yeast and saffron mixtures.
- Add flour and knead until smooth and elastic.
- Put in greased bowl and let rise 2 times.
- Divide the dough in half and then each part into thirds.
- Roll the dough into long ropes and braid the loaves.
- Place in 2 well greased 9x5x3 inch bread pans. Let the Saffron Bread dough rise about 30 minutes.
- Brush the top of the loaves with beaten egg and sprinkle with poppy seeds.
- Bake Saffron Bread at 375° F. for 1 hour.
Makes 2 loaves of Saffron Bread.
