3/4 cup hot milk
2 cups flour
1 pkg yeast (about 1 tbsp dry yeast)
1 tbsp warm water
2 tbsp soft butter
1/3 cup sugar
1/2 tsp salt
2 egg yolks
1/2 tsp cardamom
1/2 cup white raisins
Scald milk. Carefully stir 1/2 cup flour into hot milk. When smooth and cool, add yeast, softened in warm water with 1 teaspoon sugar. Set aside to rise. Add salt to egg yolks and beat until thick. Mix sugar and butter and add egg yolks and cardamom, beating thoroughly. Slowly add remaining flour and knead with hand until dough no longer sticks to fingers. Add raisins. Let rise until double in bulk. Punch down and let rise again, about 1 hour. Put dough in greased loaf, coffee or tube pan and let dough rise until double in bulk. Bake in a 350° F oven for 30 minutes.
